Boreal forests, wetlands and coastal islands make up the Copper River Delta in the Chugach National Forest near Cordova, Alaska where migrating birds flock to. An aerial view of the Copper River Delta shows us how the water meanders through the marshlands which are important links in the survival of a variety of shorebirds.
The delta covers an area of 700,000 acres which extends from the foot of the Chugach Mountains to the tidal flats inside the barrier islands. The landscape has changed over thousands of years due to the forces of nature including earthquakes, glaciers and the activity of volcanoes.
