With wings and legs outstretched, this Common Raven prepares for landing as his reflection becomes visible in the stillness of the water in Yellowstone National Park. This bird has his claws fully open to grab anything which may seem worthwhile to feed on as the Common Raven is considered to be a bit of a scavenger. In many places around the world, the Common Raven or their cousins, the Crows, have become pests, especially for farmers who grow they own crops.
The wingspan on the Common Raven expands to be between 45 to 51 inches and when they reach adulthood, they usually weigh between 1.5 to 3.6 pounds. The entire plumage on the bird is black in color, along with its beak and legs, as you can clearly see in this picture as this Common Raven displays its entire body while touching down.
