As the Autumn landscape of Denali National Park in Alaska, USA displays its beauty with its various colors, a male Caribou finds this spot ideal for grazing. In the backdrop, the snow covered peaks of Mt. McKinley tower above the Autumn colored landscape creating a beautiful backdrop for this picture.
The male caribou has a large rack of antlers which prepares him for rutting during the mating season. He will use the antlers to fight off other males in order to win over the female and then the antlers will eventually drop off until a new set grows the following summer.
His brown coat is changing to a whitish gray coloring in order for the caribou to be camouflaged during the winter months. Both the female and male caribou grow antlers, but the males are considerably larger in size and have a much more complex shape to them.
Autumn is one of the prettiest times of year in Denali National Park as the landscape radiates with color, the wildlife feeds before the snow takes over and the mountain peaks of Mt. McKinley are prepared for the cold winter months ahead.
