Through the beauty of the Sitka Spruce trees in the rainforest of Kenai Fjords National Park in Alaska, a group of people have set out hiking and blueberry picking. Berry picking in Alaska is a very addictive outdoor activity and many of the Alaskan people head out into the forest where close to 50 different types of berries ripen.
The blueberry picking season in Alaska usually runs from late August to late September and are ripe when they are very dark in color and close to dropping off the bush by themselves. The wild blueberries found throughout Kenai Fjords National Park and elsewhere in Alaska, are an excellent source of vitamin c, niacin, manganese and carbohydrates.
Throughout the Sitka Spruce forest, there are plenty of berries but be prepared to have to share them with the bears, always giving the wildlife the right away if crossing paths with them.
