Camouflaged in his nesting area in a tree, a Black-chinned Hummingbird is a small species of bird that breeds in open semi-arid areas near water in Texas Hill Country near Comfort, Texas in the USA.

Growing to about 3 1/4 inches long, the Black-chinned Hummingbird can easily camouflage itself while nesting in the trees or shrubs in Texas Hill Country near Comfort, Texas in the USA. With a long, straight, slender bill, the adult Black-chinned Hummingbird are a metallic green coloring on their backside with white below their green flanks.

The male hummingbird has a black face and chin with a purple throat band while the female has a dark, rounded tail with white tips and no throat patch. The female species of the Black-chinned Hummingbird builds the well camouflaged nest with plant fibre, webs and lichens at a height of 4-8 feet, usually above water.

Building the nest in the appropriate nesting area takes about 3 days to complete which is a small cup shaped nest measuring about 1.5 inches in diameter. Two or three eggs are laid with an incubation period of about 13-16 days with the young leaving the nest around the 20 day mark.

A cute species of bird who migrates during the winter months to southern California, Arizona, Texas and Mexico and are seen in lowland deserts, mountainous forests and urbanized areas if the trees, flowers and vines are plentiful.
