Part of the native culture of an Eskimo tribe in Alaska is to harpoon whales which they then butcher for the meat. A Bowhead Whale or baleen whale, was unlucky while passing through the Alaskan waters and became the next victim of the whale hunt. After the harpooning, the whale was brought ashore where it will then be sliced apart by the Eskimo tribe.

Alaska. Barrow. Traditional eskimo native culture. Subsistence whale hunting. A harpooned bowhead whale (Balaena mysticetusis) brought to ice surface and prepared for butchering. The bowhead whale is an Arctic baleen whale, a right whale with a large, bow-shaped head that is up to 40% of its body length.
