Homer, Alaska is one of the best places in the world to watch this majestic bird of prey, the Bald Eagle. During the winter months, the Bald Eagles can be seen soaring above the Kenai Mountains, diving for fish in Homer Spit, fighting amongst themselves on the beach or sitting proud on barren winter trees which have been blanketed in snow.
Every winter, a lady named Jean Keane would feed the Bald Eagles where she resided in a trailer on Homer Spit, bringing in hundreds of Bald Eagles on some mornings. After her death, a man named Steve Tarola was granted permission to continue her feeding techniques but only until 2010. This sudden change, could drastically change the number of Bald Eagles seen around Homer Spit as they will disperse around the area foraging for food on their own.
It will still be possible to capture beautiful pictures of a Bald Eagle like this one perched atop a tree in Homer, Alaska, but photographers will find it more challenging.
