A Bald Eagle shows off his powerful beak as he makes calls to warn off any other birds of prey which may try and intrude on his territory. The calls consists of weak chirping whistlers, a more harsh and shrill sound from younger Bald Eagle's, but can be a very threatening scream when the mature eagle means business.
The Bald Eagle is thought to have the same mate for life unless something happens to one or the other or breeding is not successful after many attempts and then it will search for a new partner. The courtship is a time when these calls are also heard along with various types of swoops, chases and cartwheels while in flight.
This profile picture gives us a good look at the large, yellow hooked beak which is very prominent against the white plumage on its head. Their beak is used for tearing flesh from their prey which they snatch either out of the water or off the ground with their massive talons.
The iris on a Bald Eagle is also yellow in color, a beautiful characteristic to this bird of prey and they are known to have extremely keen eyesight to be able to spot their next meal from quite a distance. Winter on the Kenai Peninsula in Homer, Alaska, a well known territory for these birds, is a picturesque place to watch hundreds of Bald Eagles soar across the sky and listen to their calls.
