Autumn is just beginning to take on its stunning hues in the Gates of the Arctic National Park in the Central Brooks Range in Alaska, USA where the Alpine Bearberry decorates the landscape. The Alpine Bearberry is a shrub which grows to be about 6 - 10 centimeters in height with green leaves. During the autumn season, the leaves turn red and brighten up the entire Dietrich River Valley in the Gates of the Arctic National Park.
The flowers which this shrub produces are white and the berries are a purple to black coloring which ripen in August, just before Autumn. The Alpine Bearberry is found throughout most of Alaska, especially in the mountains and across the tundra.
