An inukshuk along the shores of the Hudson Bay in the town of Churchill, Manitoba is highlighted by a beautiful display of the bright, green light formations of the Northern Lights.
An inukshuk is created by humans from flat rocks which act as a directional marker, a reference marker or as a food cache and was first used by various native tribes in the Arctic region. Today, inukshuks are used as an important cultural symbol for the Inuit people, logos for different events and in the wilderness areas, as direction markers.
The Arctic sky near Churchill, Manitoba is often blessed with the beauty of the dancing Northern Lights, more so in the fall and spring. During the long summer days, the Northern lights are present in the sky, but the sun is still shining making it impossible to see them. Thousands of stars twinkle from beneath the lights as the show brings out different patterns and designs which shift and move across the Arctic sky.
