Arctic National Wildlife Refuge Autumn Snow Alaska

Across the tundra in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska, USA, the autumn hues are brilliant while the mountain peaks receive their first blanket of snow.

A 19.2 million acre reserve in Alaska, USA makes up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge where various species of wildlife are protected in this untouched wilderness. As the Autumn colors blanket the landscape and the sunset hues dimly highlight the sky, a mountain peak in the Philip Smith Mountains has received its first dusting of snow.

This unnamed peak is a fairly easy one for mountain climbers as the slopes are not overly steep or dangerous until the end of autumn when the winter temperatures and snow take over. The vegetation across the tundra consists of low shrubs, sedges and mosses which all change in color during Autumn creating a beautiful wilderness scene. This is the ideal time of year to see the various animal species roam free and prepare themselves for the cold, winter months ahead.
