While traveling through the Inside Passage in Southeast Alaska aboard the Alaska State Marine Ferry, passengers must always keep their eyes open for various species of wildlife. In front of this ferry, passengers got an added bonus as this trip included moments of whale watching as a pod of Killer Whales passed by.
The Killer Whale population throughout Southeast Alaska is said to be about 250 which are divided into three different types. There are resident, transient and offshore killer whales residing in these waters. Researchers are working hard to see if they can find out more about how far the whales travel and their everyday life.
There are several routes the Alaska State Marine Ferry takes all which include spectacular scenery of glaciers, icebergs, coastal forests, mountains and an abundance of wildlife. Different whale watching tours travel these waters during the summer, giving visitors the opportunity to see the natural wonders of the Inside Passage, Alaska.
